Spring Treats

Organic Fair Trade Vegan Dark Chocolate Basket With Bunny
Sjaak's Organic Fair Trade Vegan Dark Chocolate Basket With Bunny

Wow, this cheery weather has greatly improved my mood! You know what else is making me smile? The Easter-themed offerings from our sweetest suppliers! Annie's Bunny Fruit Snacks, Sjaak's chocolate eggs and baskets, Pigs Peace Sanctuary's private label chocolate assortments, and other pretty and delicious assortments will make you happy, too. By the way, Easter is this Sunday, and our vegan treats are selling quickly, so don't delay!

New Products

Mock Tuna

You miss Tuno, don't you? I know you do. Two companies have come to our rescue: Vegetarian Plus has recently veganized several of their frozen meals (all of which are yummy), including their Tuna Rolls. And Cedar Lake has filled the spot that Tuno left in our home fridges, albeit with spotty availability (hopefully supply will eventually become consistent).

Kids Belts

Would you believe that my son took part in my wedding without wearing a belt?! Shocking, isn't it? (I'm so radical.) Good-looking belts for vegan kids were hard to find, and I didn't want a cheapo belt for my child that was probably made by another child in a sweatshop in China. And here we are with wedding season fast approaching. Well, worry not, moms and dads, for we have No Sweat belts in kids's sizes, and coming soon, kid-size Truth belts. Your tot can attend that fancy affair in style!

New-to-Sidecar

You request, we order. Now you can find these long-time favorites here at Sidecar for Pigs Peace:

  • Health Valley Amaranth Graham Crackers
  • Purely Decadent Mint Chocolate Chip Soy Ice Cream
  • Eco-Dent Floss, cinnamon (free of dairy-grown enzymes!)

News from the World of Food

Boca and Morningstar Farms are earning the love of vegans everywhere for committing to go egg-free. Wow! What more could be said?

Speaking of Morningstar Farms… Gardenburger BBQ Riblets are going away… but don't panic. Remember when Gardenburger products were unavailable for a few months? That's because (rumor has it) their production facilities were being merged with Morningstar Farms, now that those two companies are owned by Kellogg's. Apparently Kellogg's has decided to put its muscle behind Morningstar Farms, because they are discontinuing Gardenburger's very popular BBQ Riblets and are replacing them with Morningstar Farms Hickory BBQ Riblets. I have sampled these side-by-side, and the Hickory BBQ Riblets are just as good, or perhaps even better.

Helping Sidecar Thrive

"So, how is the store doing?" We get this question a lot. Shoppers want to know that Sidecar for Pigs Peace is going to be here for the long haul, because it's a significant resource for vegans and animals lovers. I think underlying this question is often another one, which is whether or not the idea of a non-profit vegan store is a viable business model for a sanctuary. Last month I had a great moment: I wrote the check that paid off the most significant external debt carried by the store. What does that mean? It means this model is working thanks to your support and the volunteers who generously donate their time! It means that your money does "double duty" here at Sidecar.

I would like to point out that Pigs Peace Sanctuary relies entirely on donations, and that is even more important in the face of higher food costs and a weak economy. Please consider making a donation today.
